Alejandra Boni – An analysis of institutional discourses in cooperation and education from the perspective of education for global citizenship. Reflections from the Spanish case
Abstract
The main goal of this paper is to present a didactic proposal framed on Education for Global Citizenship (EGC) and Education for Development (ED), in an English course in higher education. We describe those activities, we establish connections between then and the Sustainable Development Goals, and we identify the social competencies that students developed through them, among which we stress communication, cooperation and empathy. The methodology used followed a qualitative-descriptive model. Furthermore, we designed and administered an anonymous questionnaire with the purpose of obtaining quantitative data and of measuring the efficacy of the activities framed on EGC and ED that students performed throughout the semester. The results obtained with the questionnaire show that participants consider that the pedagogical approaches that propose EGC and ED in higher education were implemented.
